Lovegobuy Orders to the EU: VAT, Customs Duty and Carrier Fees

Read an EU shipping quote with the right questions: which charges are included, who collects them and which dated rules apply to the import.

AT A GLANCE

Key points

  • VAT, customs duty and a carrier’s administration fee are separate charges; ask what the quoted route actually includes.
  • The 2026 low-value customs-duty change is separate from VAT, and its item definition is not simply the number of physical products.
  • The Commission’s October notice announces a separate Union handling fee from 1 November 2026; this article distinguishes that upcoming change from the review date.

For a Lovegobuy order sent to an EU destination, check which import charges are included in the shipping arrangement before treating the displayed freight as your delivered total. VAT, customs duty and carrier administration charges answer different questions.

This guide was reviewed on 27 October 2026. It explains published EU rules and selected national examples, not a verified tax quotation for a particular Lovegobuy route. Use our parcel-weight guide for freight calculations; the questions below concern import charges.

Give each charge its own line

Use this editorial list when asking for a quote breakdown:

Charge What to ask
VAT Is it collected in the purchase or shipping arrangement, or handled on import?
Customs duty Which goods, classification and import rules determine the duty, and who collects it?
Carrier fee Is there a separate administration, clearance or advancement charge?
Union handling fee Does the applicable import date fall under the announced new measure, and how is it handled?

These questions do not mean every parcel receives four separate bills. They help establish what is already included and what may remain payable.

Do not confuse the VAT and duty thresholds

The Commission’s VAT overview explains that the former small-consignment VAT exemption of up to €22 was removed from July 2021. It also describes IOSS, a collection simplification for eligible imported distance sales not exceeding €150. That €150 figure does not create a general VAT-free allowance.

French Customs states that VAT on online goods imported into France from outside the EU has been due from the first euro since July 2021. This is a useful national example, not a reason to apply one French tax rate to every EU destination.

For Ireland, Revenue’s guidance distinguishes VAT paid through IOSS from VAT collected on import. Do not assume Lovegobuy or your selected route uses IOSS merely because the term appears in a general guide. Ask how VAT is handled for the actual transaction.

Check the 2026 low-value customs-duty change

The Commission’s reform page describes the temporary €3 duty introduced from 1 July 2026 for covered low-value imports up to €150. Check the applicable import procedure and any exceptions rather than applying a flat figure to every shipment.

Section 5.2 of the October guidance relates an “item” to customs classification and declaration information. It is neither a universal €3 per parcel nor simply €3 multiplied by every physical garment. Ask whoever handles the declaration to explain the relevant lines.

Irish Revenue illustrates that collection can occur at checkout or through the delivery company, depending on the business’s terms. The party legally responsible for a customs charge and how a retailer includes that cost in its customer price are separate questions.

Note the announced November handling fee

The Commission’s customs reform page, in its 7 October 2026 notice, announces a €2 Union handling fee from 1 November 2026. At this article’s 27 October review, that is an upcoming date, not a statement that every parcel already carries this charge.

The linked October guidance describes the expected application in connection with the delegated act and its entry into force. Recheck the current notice, applicable legal text and your import date before relying on the measure for a shipment. Do not add €2 to an order merely because it was placed in October, or assume it is a per-parcel charge.

The Union fee is also distinct from a carrier’s own administration charge. Revenue’s examples show carrier administration fees separately and label their amounts as illustrative. They are not a fixed fee for all carriers or EU countries.

Ask what the selected route includes

Keep the item invoice, destination, quote date and proposed shipping arrangement together. Before paying, ask support to clarify:

  • Which VAT and duty amounts are included, and which may be collected later.
  • Who handles the import declaration and which records you need to provide.
  • Whether clearance, carrier administration or advancement fees are included.
  • How the applicable import date affects any newly introduced charge.
  • Where to find the written terms supporting the answer.

Here is an editorial message template:

I am comparing [route] to [EU destination] for parcel [reference]. Please confirm which VAT, customs duty and carrier fees are included in this quote, whether an applicable Union handling fee is covered, and who collects any remaining amount. Which import-date rule and written terms apply?

Keep declared information accurate and retain the reply with your invoice. A shipping coupon may change eligible freight; it does not establish the treatment of import charges. If a later bill arrives, request its itemized basis and compare it with the saved terms before asking the carrier or platform to explain any apparent duplicate.

Use the customs-documents guide to prepare item descriptions and purchase records for the party handling the declaration. It covers the information behind the paperwork rather than the amount of tax due.

This article concerns EU destinations. The UK, the US and territories with special arrangements need their own current guidance; changing a country name in this checklist would not establish their rules.

Common questions

Is an order below €150 automatically free of import charges?

No. The former VAT exemption for small imports was removed in 2021, and the EU changed low-value customs-duty treatment from July 2026. Check the import arrangement, destination and charges included in your own quote.

Should I multiply the €3 duty by every physical garment?

No. The official guidance defines items using customs classification and declaration information. A parcel’s physical quantity alone does not establish its duty; ask the declarant or carrier to explain the applicable calculation.

Does a tax-included route name guarantee there will be no other bill?

A short route label does not explain all terms. Ask for written confirmation of VAT, duty, administration charges and any applicable Union handling fee, with the destination and import date. This guide has not verified a particular Lovegobuy route as covering all of them.
